Urine testing, MPL

Urine monitoring is a great compliment to air monitoring, and can be used to monitor the biological exposure of an employee to potential health risks, especially for mine sites. Exposure can be by skin absorption or ingestion, so biological monitoring can assist with prevention and control of work-related disease. The health risk can be determined by comparison of the observed value to Biological Exposure Index (BEI) for that contaminant –Biological monitoring can be used to:

• Help prevent occupational health problems in identifying excessive absorption
• Assess employee health risk
• Evaluate workplace controls and their effectiveness (eg safety gear, PPE)

Urine assessments provide unique personal exposure information, taking into account the differences between individuals and their absorption rates of contaminants. Urine testing can identify unknown or unexpected exposure to contaminants not predicted by air testing.

MPL Laboratories have accredited methods for the analysis of Creatinine, thiocyanate, fluoride and metals including mercury, nickel, cadmium, chromium, copper, arsenic and vanadium. We use strict QA/QC procedures incorporating Spikes, QC samples, Blanks, duplicates and participate in a proficiency urine testing program. We can include BEI’s on reports, and report results only to the client, ensuring confidentiality of results.
