Sampling is performed as follows:
-
Use sterile cotton swabs only (MPL will provide on request).
-
Label the swabs unambiguously including location and date (or use unique sample number with a full location description recorded elsewhere).
-
Dip the swab in sterile 0.85% saline solution and press out excess solution against the interior wall with a rotating motion.
-
Hold the swab handle to make a 30° angle with the surface. Rub the swab slowly and thoroughly over a 10cm² area. Rub the swab three times over this surface reversing the direction between successive strokes.
-
Place the swab back into the sterile tube.
-
Store swabs at 4°C in transit to the laboratory. Swabs should be analysed as soon as possible after collection. Time elapsed between collection and analysis must not exceed 24 hours. (Preferably less than 6 hours).
-
Include a purchase order number and details on who the recipient of the report will be.
-
Please use an esky and icebrick when returing samples to MPL for analysis.
